Shocking details have surfaced in the tragic incident that unfolded in Kolkata’s Tangra area, where six members of the Dey family attempted suicide together reportedly due to extreme financial distress. However, when their initial attempt failed, the situation took a gruesome turn, leading to the murder of two women in the family.
According to police investigations, the family consumed sleeping pills on the same night in an attempt to end their lives. The six members—Pranoy Dey, Prasun Dey, their wives Sudeshna and Romi, and their two minor children—had allegedly made a joint decision to die. However, by morning, Pranoy, Prasun, and their minor son woke up, while Sudeshna, Romi, and their minor daughter remained unconscious.
The two brothers took extreme measures as their initial attempt did not prove fatal. Investigations suggest that upon waking up, Pranoy and Prasun slit their wives’ wrists while they were still asleep, leading to their deaths. Their original plan was to admit their son to a hospital and then take their own lives, but when the child refused hospitalization, their plan was disrupted.
After the gruesome murders, the injured family members left their homes and began driving aimlessly through multiple locations, including Belgharia Expressway, Kona Expressway, Second Hooghly Bridge, AJC Bose Road, Park Circus Seven Point, and Science City. Their journey ended on EM Bypass, where they met with a road accident, leaving both brothers injured.
The post-mortem report has raised further questions, as it revealed that Sudeshna and Romi had eaten 3 to 6 hours before their deaths. This suggests that they may have woken up during the night, consumed food, and then gone back to sleep. Additionally, forensic experts are analyzing the depth and timing of the wrist wounds, as inconsistencies in the sequence of events have created further doubts about the exact timeline of the tragedy.
Police investigations have further revealed that the Dey family was under massive debt, having taken loans worth crores from six banks and private lenders. They had even mortgaged their house, and their severe financial crisis led to immense mental distress, pushing them to take this tragic step.
